Obafemi Missing In Shanghai Shenshua Win

Former Nigerian striker, Obafemi Martins, was not listed as Shanghai Shenshua beat Jiangsu Sainty 4-0 in the Chinese Super League on Sunday.

Incidentally, it turned o be the only victory of match day one for a club that has Nigerian player.

Last Friday when the Chinese Super League kicked off, Liaoning Whowin, where Anthony Ujah is registered forced a 1-1 draw with Guizhou Zhicheng, even though the Nigerian player was missing in action.

On Saturday, Mikel Obi played the entire duration in his Tianjin Teda’s 0-2 loss Shandong Luneng. Also, Changchun Yatai which had Odion Ighalo lost 5-1 to Shanghai East Asia.

Obafemi Martins was probably not featured in Sunday’s match of Shanghai Shenshua owing to regulations that limit the number of foreign players in match.

Only three foreigners can be used in a time. Shanghai Shenshua featured former Argentine international Carlos Tevez who entered the score sheet with his penalty goal.

The other two foreigners used were the Colombian duo of Fredy Guarin and Giovanni Moreno. Obafemi Martins and Kim Kee-hee of Korea Republic are the two other foreigners in Shanghai Shenshua squad. The clubs are permitted to register only five foreign players.
