Siasia Loses Out In Rwandan Job

Former Super Eagles’ striker and coach, Samson Siasia lost out in the bid for the coaching job of Rwanda national team.

The job was on Friday offered to Germany’s Antoine Hey. Samson Siasia who had handled the Nigerian U-20, the Olympic team as well as the Super Eagles was one of the duo earlier expected to get appointed.

The other person was the German Winfried Schafer who led Cameroon to the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations title. Both Siasia and Schafer initially topped eight-man shortlist for the vacant post.

The others were former Algeria’s coach, Georges Leekens,  Raoul Savoy (Switzerland), José Rui Lopes Águas (Portugal), Paul Put (Belgian)

With interviews conducted last Monday, the Rwanda FA announced on Friday that Antoine Hey has gotten the job. “The 46-year-old, Hey, is expected in Kigali soon, where he will be unveiled before he starts his responsibilities,” the football federation’s press statement said.

Rwanda had been without a permanent coach since Northern Irishman Jonny McKinstry was sacked last August.
