Poor Scoring Form Worries Rivers United Boss
CAF Champions League aspirants, River United paid dearly for profligacy at goal Thursday when the side faced Wikki Tourists of Bauchi in a MatchDay 11 encounter of the Nigerian league. The scores were 0-0 in a match that the visiting Rivers United could have won.
The beautiful display by Rivers United which had in the Champions League preliminaries annihilated the more experienced AS Real Bamako of Mali 4-0 in Port Harcourt became goal shy in the encounter with Wikki Tourists.
Owing to poor scoring form, the club is rooted 16th and within relegation waters in the Nigerian league,
“That the club has scored just six times in nine matches is now a source of worry for the coach”, remarked Sammy Wejinya, the Rivers United media officer.
According to him, Coach Stanley Eguma remarked: “It is really unfortunate (that we are not scoring as many goals as we would have liked) because we need goals at this point in time.
“It is especially important to score goals as it will motivate the players ahead of the next round of the CAF Champions League.”
Rivers United are billed to face Al- Merreikh of Sudan next week when the CAF Champions League resumes.
